Learn A New Skill

Immerse yourself during your travels by learning a new skill; be it testing your creative skills with ceramics, distilling your own gin in the convenience of your villa, or learning how to cook a traditionally South African meal.

Cape Malay Cooking Class

Escape+Explore offers unforgettable tours that are not intended to consume a whole travel itinerary, but offer once in a lifetime adventures. Enhance your day exploration out by adding a private local cooking class.

The Cape Malays are a community unique to the Western Cape of South Africa. Lekka Kombuis is situated in a historic part of Cape Town called Bo-Kaap ('Upper Cape' in English). The Bo-Kaap is a colourful, iconic neighbourhood, full of rich history and culture. Food plays a big role in the life of the Cape Malay community and reflects this vibrant culture. For a taste of locally influenced cuisine and Cape Malay flavours, head to Gamidah's private home, one of the oldest in the area.

While out exploring the best that Cape Town has to offer, stop for a 2 hour session to learn the art of folding samoosas, rolling rootis, making chicken curry, sambal and chilli bites, all whilst chatting about local life in Cape Town and the Bo Kaap.

Price: R1 100 per person (over and above your day tour rate with Escape+Explore)
