This striking exclusive-use villa is magnificently located on South Africa’s largest private game reserve, one of Africa’s most unusual and underrated gems. The undulating Kalahari sandveld landscape is breathtaking in its expanse, the semi-arid plains punctuated by rust red sand dunes and dusted with golden grasses – a stark and achingly beautiful contrast to the huge cobalt-blue sky.
Set between two rolling mountain ranges, Tarkuni Villa is the ultimate private sanctuary with vistas that will beguile even the most jaded traveller, but never at the expense of comfort. The villa was completely refurbished in 2014 to create a natural bush camp feel with a sense of luxury and tranquillity.
Combine 4 nights in Cape Town at North with 4 nights at Tarkuni for quality family and friend time! Great rates for between 6 & 10 guests. Stay until 30 Nov 2017 or between 1 Feb and 31 Oct 2018 to qualify.View other specials >

Plenty of living areas create varied options for relaxing and socialising. The spacious indoor sitting room has a double-sided fireplace to create a cosy atmosphere throughout the lounge and dining room. The wall in the dining room has a built-in wine cellar presenting opportunities for wine tastings. On the mezzanine level there is a well-stocked library and games room. Comfortable couches and a large square leather ottoman create a space that is conducive to conversation and a casual evening watching television or viewing the day’s game photographs on a smart TV with integrated media facilities.
The vast veranda is perfect for guests to enjoy the views towards the waterhole, read a book, or doze off for the afternoon. There are comfortable daybeds, occasional chairs, sofas, and a hanging basket chair for seating options. There are also dining areas for enjoying the incredible Kalahari evening landscape. There is a barbeque grill under cover and protected from the elements as well as a boma where guests can feast around an open fire. A large fire-pit adds to the romantic southern Kalahari experience and the swimming pool is a welcome retreat for cooling off on warm days and nights.
The five luxurious suites each have a spacious bedroom with King-size or twin beds, an en-suite bathroom with a bath and outdoor shower, and a comfortable seating and study area. Sliding glass doors give guests vistas of the open savannah grasslands across to the Korannaberg Mountains. Each bedroom leads out to an organic-shaped flowing outdoor deck and onto a private terrace with outdoor star bed. These can be made up for guests who want to experience the wonder of sleeping under the stars.
Tarkuni creates an oasis of serenity in the desert. Upstairs, a stunning spa therapy suite offers guests the opportunity to indulge in the unique treatments of Tswalu’s award-winning safari spa experience. The home has its own dedicated team including a host and private chef to ensure a completely personal service. A private vehicle, personal field guide and tracker ensure an equally bespoke safari experience with absolute flexibility.
The reserve offers superlative game sightings of some of South Africa’s rarest and most extraordinary wildlife. These include the desert black rhino (Tswalu’s population represents one third of South Africa’s entire remaining desert black rhino), the black-maned Kalahari lion, the magnificent sable antelope and the endearing meerkat.
Tswalu is located in a malaria-free area, welcomes families and actively encourages children to participate fully in the safari experience. Because of its unique landscape, wildlife and experience, Tswalu combines perfectly into any itinerary and provides the ideal partnership with both the intensity of the lowveld or the glamour of Cape Town.
