LION SANDS 1933 LODGE

Greater Kruger, Mpumalanga & Limpopo,
"You have to know your roots in order to find your wings." This was a favoured adage of Guy Aubrey Chalkley, who purchased this pristine tract of bush back in 1933. With his prescient gift Chalkley, great-grandfather of the current owners Robert & Nick More, both rooted his descendents and gave their imagination flight - used to admirable effect in the design of their unpretentious family bush home. Located on a prime spot (where Chalkley liked to sit and write), on the shaded banks of the Sabie River, large glass windows and sliding doors create a seamless connection with the romantic bushveld setting.
The look is classic-contemporary; the feel au naturel, with muted tones and textures to blend with the bush surrounds. It's sophisticated, ideal for the globetrotter used to luxury, yet a great destination for kids, with a specially-designed children's area with an interleading room for the au-pair. After all, 1933 was designed by an African family that has been at home in this unspoilt wilderness for almost a century, and knows how to commune and live in perfect harmony with it.
